Gears Manufacturer
Types of Gears We Manufacture
JAS Engineering is a precision gears manufacturer supplying a comprehensive range of industrial gears for power transmission, speed reduction, and motion control applications across heavy industries. We manufacture spur gears, helical gears, bevel gears, worm gears, worm wheels, and custom gear assemblies from alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, and stainless steel, all hobbed, milled, or ground to international standards with heat treatment and surface finishing to meet the most demanding performance requirements.
Spur Gears
Spur gears are the most common and straightforward type of gear, with straight teeth cut parallel to the gear axis. They are used for transmitting motion and torque between parallel shafts in gearboxes, conveyor drives, machine tools, and general industrial equipment. We manufacture spur gears in a wide range of modules (from Module 1 to Module 20+), tooth counts, face widths, and bore sizes, in carbon steel, alloy steel, and cast iron, with teeth hobbed or shaped to DIN 867 / IS 2535 tooth profile standards.
Helical Gears
Helical gears have teeth cut at an angle (helix angle) to the gear axis, allowing multiple teeth to be in contact simultaneously. This results in smoother, quieter operation and greater load-carrying capacity compared to spur gears of the same size, making helical gears the preferred choice for high-speed, high-torque gearboxes, reducers, and drives in cement, steel, and mining plants. We manufacture helical gears in both right-hand and left-hand helix configurations to suit mating gear pair requirements.
Bevel Gears
Bevel gears are used to transmit motion between intersecting shafts, typically at 90°, and are essential in drives requiring a change in shaft direction. We manufacture straight bevel gears and spiral bevel gears (helical bevel gears) depending on the speed and noise requirements of the application. Straight bevel gears are suitable for low-to-medium speed drives, while spiral bevel gears offer quieter, smoother operation at higher speeds. Common applications include differential drives, right-angle gearboxes, crane mechanisms, and conveyor drives.
Worm Gears & Worm Wheels
Worm gear sets consist of a worm (screw-profile gear) and a worm wheel (mating helical gear), used for large speed reduction ratios in a compact space with 90° shaft axes. They are inherently self-locking at high ratios, making them ideal for hoists, winches, conveyors, and gate mechanisms where back-driving must be prevented. We manufacture worm shafts from alloy steel (EN19, EN24) and worm wheels from phosphor bronze or cast iron depending on the load, speed, and lubrication conditions of the application.
Internal Gears (Ring Gears)
Internal (ring) gears have teeth cut on the inner surface of a cylindrical ring, meshing with a smaller external spur or helical pinion inside the ring. They are used in planetary gear systems, rotary actuators, slewing drives, and specialised gearboxes where compact, concentric drive arrangements are needed. We manufacture internal ring gears using CNC gear shaping machines, which are capable of producing accurate internal tooth profiles that hobbing machines cannot reach.
Gear Racks & Pinions
Gear racks convert rotary motion into linear motion (or vice versa) when paired with a spur or helical pinion. We manufacture straight-tooth and helical-tooth gear racks in standard module sizes, cut from carbon steel or alloy steel bar in straight lengths, and can join multiple rack lengths for long-travel applications. Pinion gears to match any rack module are also manufactured in-house. Common applications include CNC machine tool axes, rack-and-pinion steering, material handling systems, and gate drive mechanisms.
